Medical Lodging

Did you ever wonder what you would do with your special needs pet if you ever had to go away?
Well, wonder no more. Here at Hickory Veterinary Hospital we provide “Medical Lodging” for your best friend.
Medical Lodging is a service we offer to care for a pet with special needs when an owner cannot be there. It is directed toward those who are already diagnosed with a medical condition that requires a little more attention by our veterinary staff.
Conditions that require medical lodging include, but are not limited to:
- Diabetes
- Respiratory Disease
- Addison’s Disease
- Megaesophagus
- Cushing’s Disease
- Post-Surgical Patients
- Cardiac Disease
- History of Seizures
- History of Urinary Blockages
- Geriatric Patients (8 years & older) Blind and/or Deaf
- History of Pancreatitis
- Any Chronic Disease with Special Needs
As a benefit to this decision, your pet would stay in the veterinary hospital building of our facility where there is always a doctor on duty. It is important to us that your pet receives the care that is needed if a complication were to occur. Your companion would be provided with 24 hour care during their stay. They would receive that extra attention and supervision during the night hours that a pet staying at a regular boarding facility would not be able to receive.
The day begins with your pet’s housing unit being cleaned. They are then walked (dog), medicated if required, and provided with fresh food and water. We also weigh them daily to assure they are maintaining good health during their stay. We typically do treatments every two hours but will accommodate the medical needs of your companion. We also provide rubber mats and bedding to those who require that extra comfort. Throughout the day we monitor and record their appetite, bowel movements, and urine production; they are walked, given fresh water and cleaned as needed. Each day a doctor is assigned to review their treatments and assure that their experience here is going smoothly. The day comes to an end the same way as it began; they are walked, medicated, provided with fresh food and water, and have their housing unit cleaned.
Overall, Medical Lodging may be the best choice for your pet when you need to go away. Along with its many benefits, we strive to maintain the proper care and happiness of your pet.
