Hickory Veterinary Hospital understands that the loss of a pet is an emotional and very painful experience. Grief over the loss of a pet is natural and healthy. Our pets are a significant and constant part of our lives. Pets provide companionship, comfort and unconditional love. Our staff members are also pet owners who have experienced the joys of the human-animal bond and mourned the passing of beloved animal companions.
There are always people who do not understand the strong connection people and animals have and therefore, cannot relate to the pain felt after their loss. Some pet owners are fortunate to have friends and family who are supportive during the grieving process; others may need to seek out the support of people who understand the pain of pet loss.
“Gentle eyes that see so much, paws that have that quiet touch. Purrs to signal ‘all is well’ and show more love than words can tell. Graceful movements touched with pride, a calming presence by your side. A friendship that will last and grow – small wonder why we love them so.”

The loss of a beloved pet is always difficult. We believe every pet deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. We are here to help guide you through the decisions that need to be made if burial is not an option. Our specially trained staff maintains the highest standards in thoughtful aftercare. The Hickory Pet Inn offers two options for cremation: public and private. A public cremation is communal and no cremains are returned. A private cremation is done individually and your pet’s cremains are presented to you in a wooden urn. You have the option of adding a personalized brass nameplate to the urn. While a wooden urn is standard, we can provide you with a catalog of alternative remembrance urns. The team at Hickory Veterinary Hospital will also offer you a clay paw print memorial at no charge. We hope this small keepsake will provide some comfort to you. We understand the decision is not an easy one and our staff is available to answer any questions you may have.
